The Link Between A.D.D and Addiction: Getting the Help You Deserve - by Wendy Richardson

After identifying my info addiction as a major stumbling block towards my success, I began to research addiction and how people with ADHD overcome it. The first book I found was "The Link Between A.D.D and Addiction: Getting the Help You Deserve" by Wendy Richardson . With such a long and helpful sounding title I thought I had struck gold with my first strike. Alas, this is one claim that didn't pan out for me due to a serious philosophical difference between how the author and I approach ADHD. Right off the bat I should warn you. This book was written by a person with ADHD and it reads like it. The author often changes subjects within sections. She doesn't always finish the subject she starts at the beginning of the section, and, in my opinion, she transitions from premise to conclusion but often forgets the proofs. I should also warn you that the author spends the first eleven of fourteen chapters touching upon addiction by recounting the tragic tales of ruined l...

Adventures in ADHD - So What Did I Find Out?

After a month of experimentation, what exactly did I learn about the ADHD obstacles between me and my desired goals? The project seemed so simple. Choose two goals to complete during the month of May. Work towards completing those goals, and only those two goals, and take notes on the types of obstacles you encounter. This was going to be my big stand against ADHD — my showdown at high noon. I live in the West. We have tumbleweed. It was perfect. Then I had my fanny handed to me by a wagon-load of nitroglycerin pulled by a team of hyperactive horses. Goal one, to finish the first draft of a picture book so that I could shelf it and focus on my novel, was completed. Goal two, to finish designs for a web project, was not as successful. Turns out, the first goal wasn't such a success either. I was so focused on making the first goal I failed to realize that I wasn't as prepared for my upcoming writer's conference as I thought I was. I thought chapter one of my novel was fin...

Here's something I haven't done in a while. It's a new entry for Thursday Thirteen. I realize that most people post their Thursday Thirteen's sometime Tuesday afternoon, but I don't roll that way. I like things late and tardy. The article on my May ADHD experiment is turning out to be a thesis of sorts, so while I cut away at it over the weekend I hope you enjoy the following. 13 of the Funniest References to My Blog This Month blogspot depression - Are they looking for blogspot blogs on depression, or are they researching depression in bloggers who use blogspot? miley cyrus coloring book pages - This is the most harmless search variation on the thousand or so "Miley Cyrus" hits on my blog since I wrote that article about the Miley Cyrus scandal . Most are derivatives of "miley cyrus in bed" and "mileycyrus nekkid", though I'm sure "posing naked angel" is related somehow. mahjongg side effects - Perhaps they shouldn...

Last weekend just about killed me. Here are my musings about the experience before I roll up my sleeves and settle back into my regular blogging schedule As I return to a semblance of normality with my life, I can see that many things have remained unchecked on my To Do List of Doom. There's a novel I'm supposed to be working on, the web site I'm supposed to be redesigning, and not to mention a blog I'm supposed to be posting regularly on. In fact, I'm supposed to have written this incredibly insightful article about my findings during the month of May as I observed my ADHD self react while I worked on limited goals. As months go, May was pretty good. June wasn't so bad either. The problem was that I was too busy working on my discoveries to take time to write about them, then I became very busy with family. Maybe that is why I was initially less than thrilled about attending my youngest brother's wedding last weekend. I was itching to get back to Me Time an...
